A presentation by Francisco Vigier of the Pablo de Olavide University in Seville on the quality of outsourced translation and interpreting services in the Spanish justice sector.
This presentation, exclusively for APCI members, will deal with the TIPp project, which involved the systematic and objective assessment of the quality of interpreting available to the Spanish courts. It was funded by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness and ran from January 2015 to December 2018. The research team, comprising academics from four Spanish universities, analysed video recordings of interpreter-mediated criminal proceedings at the High Court of Justice of Catalonia in Barcelona. The project’s findings concerning the quality of court interpreting were significant and quite shocking.
